NATURE ISSUE

Haiti (Nature Disaster)

A massive earthquake of magnitude 7.0 hit Haiti near its capital, Port-au-Prince on January 12, 2010. This situation caused over 150,000 is confirmed dead and 1.5 million left homeless.

The quake was also felt in neighboring areas including Dominican Republic, in Turks and Caicos Islands, southeastern Cuba, eastern Jamaica, in parts of Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, and as far as Tampa, Florida and Caracas, Venezuela, according to the US Geological Survey.

The immense poverty of Haiti, its weak infrastructure and poor quality buildings have contributed to the large death toll and massive destruction.

NATURE ISSUE

Nature and Animal Conservation

The conservation of ecosystem and species in the biodiversity need to maintain their natural balances from disturbed or disrupted by human activity. This occurs such as habitat destruction, illegal poaching, to influencing or manipulating laws designed to protect species.

Beside that, its can be strongly approved with the declining number of the tiger that it population was declined by 95% in last century because they was imposed by poaching, retributive killings and lost their habitat.

In fact, its not just tigers, rare leopards, deer and other animals are also being illegally traded and many other animals are dwindling in numbers.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE

Forest Destruction

What about rainforest destruction? What happened to them? The main causes of total clearance are agriculture and fuelwood collection in drier area. For the forest degradation, the main cause is logging. Large areas of rainforest are destroyed for only to remove a few logs. Wow! Pity of them…. Mining and industry also give a serious impact. Indigenous people are displace, severe water, air and land pollution occurs because of that. One more cause for the forest degradation is tourism. Why we said that? This is because many companies and resorts are in fact exploiting the environment for profit like for example in Cape Town Tribulation, Australia. The rainforest is being threatened by excessive tourism. Clearing for rounds and pollution of water are the major problems in this area.

HEALTH ISSUE

Tobacco

In the health organization, tobacco was categorizes as the second major causes of death in the world and it companies are compelled to target the young and women. Besides that, the teenager are also be the future consumer that often highly impressionable and in some societies with significant disposable income for any company where brand and consumption of their products are important to attracting members of society increases the chances of longer term to lock in.

Other than that, tobacco were also created a lot of negative effects such as exacerbates poverty that contributes to world hunger by diverting prime land away from food production. In fact, it can damage the environment and reduces the productivity of our economic.

WOMEN'S RIGHT ISSUE

Women’s rights around the world is an important indicator to understand global well-being. A major global women’s rights treaty was ratified by the majority of the world’s nations a few decades ago.

Yet, despite many successes in empowering women, numerous issues still exist in all areas of life, ranging from the cultural, political to the economic. For example, women often work more than men, yet are paid less; gender discrimination affects girls and women throughout their lifetime; and women and girls are often are the ones that suffer the most poverty. Reasons for such disparity include the fact that women are generally underpaid and because they often perform low-status jobs, compared to men.

Women not only earn less than men but also tend to own fewer assets. Gender biases in property and inheritance laws and in other channels of acquiring assets also leave women and children at greater risk of poverty.

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ISSUE

By Anup Shah, This Page Last Updated Sunday, January 03, 2010.
The Banana Trade War
"Although bananas may only look like a fruit, they represent a wide variety of environmental, economic, social, and political problems. The banana trade symbolizes economic imperialism, injustices in the global trade market, and the globalization of the agricultural economy. Bananas are also number four on the list of staple crops in the world and one of the biggest profit makers in supermarkets, making them critical for economic and global food security. As one of the first tropical fruits to be exported, bananas were a cheap way to bring “the tropics” to North America and Europe."

Bananas are Serious Business

Bananas are globally one of the most commonly eaten fruit, not just in the tropics where they are usually grown, but in regions like North America and Europe. However, the way bananas are produced and exported gives an insight into a number of global issues.

In a number of countries such as Brazil and India, large amounts of bananas are produced but consumed mostly locally. Other regions such as Central America and the Caribbean include a large number of banana exporters. Some of the nations in these regions are quite dependent on banana exports, often to their former colonial rulers.

HEALTH ISSUE

Obesity...

Obesity is a growing global health problem. Obesity is when someone is so overweight that it is a threat to their health.

Obesity typically results from over-eating (especially an unhealthy diet) and lack of enough exercise.

In our modern world with increasingly cheap, high calorie food (example, fast food — or “junk food”), prepared foods that are high in things like salt, sugars or fat, combined with our increasingly sedentary lifestyles, increasing urbanization and changing modes of transportation, it is no wonder that obesity has rapidly increased in the last few decades, around the world.

The number of people overweight or obese is now rivaling the number of people suffering from hunger around the world. Obese people were thought to be mainly from richer countries or wealthier segments of society, but poor people can also suffer as the food industry supplies cheaper food of poorer quality.

GEOPOLITICS ISSUE

Geopolitics is the art and practice of using political power over a given territory.

Only after one understands how freedom and rights are being suppressed by the managers of imperial states even as they preach peace, freedom, justice, rights, and majority rule to their citizens to maintain their beliefs in the morality of their society.

Thus assure the continued support of the masses for inflicting such violence upon the world can one write honest history. If one does not understand that process, one is almost certain to write a history in which, unbeknownst to the author, the background and documentation have been carefully created to give Managers of State the freedom to suppress other people’s rights and transfer their wealth to the imperial center through unequal trades.

The example of this critical issues are like the conflict in Africa that Africa has become an attractive and profitable dumping ground for nations and arm manufacturers eager to get rid of weapon stocks made superfluous by the end of the Cold War or by technological developments.

FINANCIAL ISSUE

The global financial crisis, brewing for a while, really started to show its effects in the middle of 2007 and into 2008. Besides that, around the world stock markets have fallen, large financial institutions have collapsed or been bought out, and governments in even the wealthiest nations have had to come up with rescue packages to bail out their financial systems.

On the one hand many people are concerned that those responsible for the financial problems are the ones being bailed out, while on the other hand, a global financial meltdown will affect the livelihoods of almost everyone in an increasingly inter-connected world. In fact the problem could have been avoided, if ideologues supporting the current economics models weren't so vocal, influential and inconsiderate of others’ viewpoints and concerns.

HEALTH ISSUE

AIDS around the World…..

We must take serious about this issue. This epidemic can causes death. It is not only in Asian but it is all over the world. Hmm.. What is AIDS means actually?

Acquired immune deficiency syndrome! That’s it. AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV, Human Immunodefiency Virus. People who have HIV antibodies are called “HIV Positive”. Having HIV disease is not the same as having AIDS because many people are HIV-positive but do not get sick for many years. HIV can slowly spread the immune system. If the immune system is damaged, viruses that usually not cause any problem can make person become very sick.

UNAIDS estimated that for 2008 worldwide, there were:

  • 33.4 million living with HIV
  • 2.7 million new infections of HIV
  • 2 million deaths from AIDS

Approximately 7 out of 10 deaths for 2008 were in Sub-Saharan Africa, a region that also has over two-thirds of adult HIV cases and over 90% of new HIV infections amongst children.

POVERTY ISSUE

POVERTY…what we can write about it. Actually, much has been written the meaning or definition of poverty. There are two form of poverty. There are economic and social or spiritual. The poverty that people usually talk is about economic but this overlook that many economically rich countries can have a much higher percentage of social poverty than economically poor countries. Social poverty is refers to people who are lonely, depressed and addicted.

Real Life Struggle for Haitian Girl

(by Skye Wheeler ,Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Inter Press Service)

Haiti: To really understand someone walk in their shoes. This is harder than it sounds for people living in poverty without shoes.

As a single mother, Hosanna struggles to care for a boy, Naitil. She found living alone on the streets. He wears the same filthy clothes every single day. “My skin itches all over,” he says, embarrassed at the bumps covering his skin.

She knows the dirt rubs his skin raw, but she doesn’t have money for detergent or new clothing or shoes. If he doesn’t get new clothes soon, the dirt will continue to eat away at his skin, causing open sores that could easily draw in deadly typhoid fever bacteria common in the local filthy river, his only source for drinking and bathing water.

RASICM ISSUE

Racism is the belief that characteristic and abilities can be attributed to people simply on the basis of their race and that some racial group are superior to others. Racism and discrimination have been used as powerful weapons encouraging fear or hatred of others in times of conflict and war also even during economic downturns.

Racism is also a very touchy subject for some people, have been plagues which have hindered the growth of human society and the human spirit for thousands of years. The ways people have acted and reacted to these racial injustices however, has varied. Numerous events of political racism have taken place in the past, including enslavement of Africans by the Romans, black slavery in America, the mistreatment of aboriginals in various countries, European colonialism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and countless others.

Why is this happening?

A double standard exists as to what practices are acceptable in certain communities, villages or cities and not in others. Second, people of color around the world pay a greater and disproportionate price for economic development, resources extraction and industrialism in terms of their health, quality of life and livelihood. Although corporate greed and the lack of corporate accountability explains a tremendous amount of what is described above, racism in the form of environmental racism, plays a significant role that must not be overlooked.

Climate Change and Global Warming

Last updated Wednesday, December 30, 2009.

The climate is changing. The earth is warming up, and there is now overwhelming scientific consensus that it is happening, and human-induced. With global warming on the increase and species and their habitats on the decrease, chances for ecosystems to adapt naturally are diminishing. Many are agreed that climate change may be one of the greatest threats facing the planet. Recent years show increasing temperatures in various regions, and/or increasing extremities in weather patterns.

This section explores some of the effects of climate change. It also attempts to provide insights into what governments, companies, international institutions, and other organizations are attempting to do about this issue, as well as the challenges they face. Some of the major conferences in recent years are also discussed.

Why Is Biodiversity Important? Who Cares?

Last updated Wednesday, November 18, 2009.

Why is Biodiversity important? Does it really matter if there aren’t so many species?

Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play.

For example, a larger number of plant species means a greater variety of crops; greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms; and healthy ecosystems can better withstand and recover from a variety of disasters. Why is Biodiversity important? Does it really matter if there aren’t so many species?

And so, while we dominate this planet, we still need to preserve the diversity in wildlife.

WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT GLOBAL ISSUES??!!

Anybody knows what is global issues? Global issue is the international issues. Normally it is the sensitivity issues that our nation worldwide converse about it.
